The West Nile Women’s Agenda

Feminature Uganda has initiated the West Nile Women’s Network (WNWN) a loose coalition of women-led, women-focused organisations and individuals to advance the rights of women in the West Nile region. This springs from the uncoordinated response to the needs of women across socio-economic and political divides. The network is estimated to bring together close to one hundred registered and non-registered organisations and individuals of good repute to consolidate local efforts to promote and protect and advocate for the well-being of women and girls in the region.

The overall objective of the West Nile Women’s Network is to define the women’s agenda in the West Nile Region;

a)To design a strategic agenda for women in the West Nile Region

b)To leverage & consolidate our individual efforts to actualizing this agenda & what we envisage for women in the West Nile Region

c)To curate local, national, and international partnerships in the achievement of this agenda.

d) To be a collective advocacy organ of all women-led, women-focused organisations in the region.

The network is to be headed by the General Assembly made up of paid-up members, and honorary and affiliate members. They elect the Board to make policy decisions on behalf of the network and give policy advice and guidance. The network is managed by the coordinating center (currently held at Feminature Uganda. It connects to district chapters in all 13 districts of the West Nile region.

Events leading to the charter of the network begin this week with the inaugural meeting led by our Executive Director Ms. Lekuru Annet to draw up a roadmap and solicit local partner support towards the achievement of our goals.
