Camp Kennedy Extra Call for Applications Oct 2021

Camp Kennedy is a non-partisan project implemented by Feminature Uganda in partnership with the Public Affairs Section of the US Mission in Uganda to increase the understanding and participation young people in Uganda. At least 50 young people from across Uganda with demonstrated leadership traits and interest in public service will are called to participate in Cohort 1 of the Camp Kennedy Extra and subsequently be selected to participate in the project through a competitive and transparent process. The training comprises three major components; the virtual training modules, debates and implementation of community civic activity. During Camp Kennedy Extra, the successful applicants will be equipped with knowledge and skills to be responsible for their governance and democratic processes so as to enhance their civic responsiveness and participation in the affairs of their community and country as a whole, using the legacy and call to citizen participation by President John F. Kennedy. The students will be required to put the skills acquired and knowledge shared into a community civic engagement activity within their local communities. This is meant to call citizens to take political and social action in Uganda, so as to increase citizen ownership and participation in the governance of Uganda. A cross-cutting theme in the training will be equipping the participants with knowledge on violent extremist tendencies in their local communities and promoting tolerance, inclusivity and peaceful co-existence using examples from the legacy of President JFK.

Camp Kennedy Extra Eligibility criteria

  1. Applicant MUST be living in Uganda at the for the expected duration of the virtual program
  2. Must be aged 16-30 years of age at the time of application
  3. A demonstrated track record of leadership and interest in public service
  4. Applicant should have a good knowledge navigating through basic online meeting applications such as zoom.
  5. This is a free training but applicant must be ready to meet the online training data costs.

Structure of Learning

The entire training is virtual in nature. The training will have both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (offline) sessions. You will be required to participate in all the synchronous sessions. There will be no more than five scheduled synchronous sessions throughout the training. Additional synchronous sessions will be scheduled as per the need identified by participants.

Requirements for the Training

The applicant should have;

  1. A laptop/desktop/smartphone/tablet to facilitate the learning
  2. Should access to stable internet for at least six (6) hours per week

Geographical scope

The applicant for Camp Kennedy extra should be a Ugandan preferably residing within the country for the duration of the t one-month training.

Timeframe

Camp Kennedy Extra activities will be implemented starting November 1st – 30th 2021 and will be summed on November 30th with a commissioning ceremony. Details of the commissioning to be shared in due course.

Alumni Status

After successfully completing all the requirements of the program, you will automatically be assimilated into the larger alumni network of Camp Kennedy Uganda and eligible for all opportunities due to alumni whenever available.

N.B.: To Successfully Complete your on-line application form, please have the following documents ready

  1. A scanned copy of your national ID, driver’s license or birth certificate
  2. For applicants younger than 18, please download the standard Camp Kennedy Parental Consent Form from here. Applicants older than 18 do not need to submit a signed parental consent form.
  3. If you have any online links to your previous work with an online footprint, please have those ready
  4. If you also have active presence on social media, please have your social media links readily available.

All applications MUST be written in the English language. Application should be emailed to campkennedy@feminature.org with the subject Application to Camp Kennedy Extra to be received not later than October 25th 2021.

Selection of participants

All applications will be scrutinized by Feminature Uganda, looking out for leadership traits and experiences, and a demonstrated interest in public service. Camp Kennedy does not discriminate and therefore encourages both female and male student leaders who meet the eligibility requirements to apply. We also encourage applications from Persons with Disabilities.

Notice to successful applicants

All successful applicants will be announced and notified in on October 29th using the email addresses provided on the online application form at which point you will be furnished with additional information on the next-steps and commencement of the training in an information session to be scheduled.
