Camp Kennedy Alumnus Garang Gabriel Makol Seeks to Inspire Women

Garang Gabriel Makol is an 18 year old student of St. Joseph’s College Ombaci in Arua, who came to Uganda in 2006 from South Sudan to be educated. He is alumnus of our Camp Kennedy Project implemented by Feminature Uganda in Partnership with the US Embassy Kampala.
Camp Kennedy is a Civic Education Project for Student Leaders in Uganda aged 16-18 across the four administrative regions of Uganda. The project seeks to promote public service, non-violence and active citizenry.
He has made a video that he shared on his YouTube Channel about women empowerment, drawing lessons from his mother’s story aimed at changing the way women see themselves.
He says, ‘I was inspired to do that video because of all the things my mother wishes she had done and didn’t do bcoz of the society norms at the time. I wanted other women to not walk the same path like she did. I just hope the video speaks and inspires some women.’
Last year, after participating in the inaugural Camp Kennedy project inspired by President John F. Kennedy, Garang drew inspiration and wants to serve his community and peers as a Motivational Speaker.
This year, the Camp Kennedy Project will be implemented in the districts of Gulu, from the North, Tororo in the East, Kamuli in the Central and Mbarara in the West. Arua, Kasese and Mukono districts will also join the districts in their regions in this year’s project.
