Job Summary

Under the operational and direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator will support the technical oversight of program management unit and implement activities of organisation. You will also participate in the formulation, management and evaluation of program activities relating to Feminature Uganda’s portfolio.

The Project Coordinator shall supervise and coordinate the Camp Kennedy project. The Project Coordinator also works in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Financial Administrator/Manager/Assistant and staff, and from time to time with donors, partners and other stakeholders as shall be assigned.

About the CAMP KENNEDY  Project

The camp Kennedy is a non-partisan project implemented by Feminature Uganda with funding from the Public Affairs Office of the US Mission in Uganda to increase the understanding and participation of a total of 100 actively enrolled female and male student leaders aged 16 – 18, across the four administrative regions of Uganda. The overall goal of the Camp Kennedy Project is to promote public service, non-violence and active citizenry by building the civic competences of student leaders to spur the democratic and socio-economic development of their communities and countries in non-violent ways. Students with demonstrated leadership traits and interest in public service will apply to participate in the camp and subsequently be selected from each of the four administrative regions of Uganda through a competitive and transparent process into in-person cohorts, and an additional 100 student leaders in the virtual cohorts from across the country. The camp comprises three major components; the regional training workshops, debates, and implementation of community civic activity.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures implementation of program strategies focusing on achievement of the following results:

  1. Thorough analysis and research of the legal, political, social, and economic situation in the country as relates to Governance, Democracy and Human Rights, and preparation of substantive inputs to Program Documents, Resource Mobilization Strategies, and other documents in support of project reforms.
  2. Organization, preparation, collation and consolidation of annual work plans and budget administration for activities under the Camp Kennedy  Project
  3. Prepare and review work plans, activity reports, implement program activities according to the technical, financial, and administrative procedures prescribed in the project-working document for the Camp Kennedy Project.
  4. Follow up on communication with project partners.
  5. Analysis and synthesis of proposals, draft terms of reference on the areas for support and interventions relative to the objectives of the project
  6. Support the designing, using a human-centered and community demand-driven approaches viable strategies and tools to facilitate the sustainability of the project through alumni outreaches and meaningful engagement in conformity to Feminature Uganda’s overall goals, objectives, mission and vision.
  7. Support the design and formulation of programs within the area of responsibility, translating organisation priorities into local interventions relating to Feminature Uganda’s positive youth empowerment and leadership objectives, with a deliberate focus on promoting a vibrant generation that participates in its local affairs through civic engagement.
  8. Support initiation of new project areas and approaches to enrich the Camp Kennedy Civic Education Project, and pitch these to the Executive Director quarterly or much sooner as may be necessary.
  9. Coordination of the mandatory and budget re-phasing exercises, closure of projects through review.
  10. Support and supervise management of program resources.
  11. Application of conceptual models in support of program design
  12. Substantive monitoring and evaluation of the projects, identification of operational and financial problems, development of solutions
  13. Participation in all processes relating to the audit of the CAMP KENNEDY  project
  14. Preparation of inputs for reporting, supervise collation, consolidation, and review of monthly, quarterly, annual, and other reports for donor and board reporting.
  15. Analysis and research of information on donors, preparation of substantive briefs on possible areas of cooperation
  16. Identification of opportunities for initiation of new project areas, active contribution to the overall office effort in resource mobilization through projects, activities, dialogue, and other mechanisms
  17. Identification of sources of information related to policy-driven and project management issues.
  18. Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to program, institutional and country policy goals.
  19. Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of Practice
  20. Organization of training for the operations/projects staff on project issues
  21. Professional growth through active learning.
  22. Any other duties as may be assigned within or outside of the Camp Kennedy project.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in humanities, human rights, and development studies, Social Work and Social Administration, Law, etc.
  • At least two years working knowledge and experience in civic education
  • YALI alumni, Mandela Washington Fellows in the Civic Leadership track, and alumni of the African Civic Engagement Academy have an added advantage.

Skills Required

  • Excellent advocacy and representation skills, ability to build effective working relationships to facilitate communication with various actors.
  • Excellent knowledge in the civic context and status of civic education in Uganda.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Contextual knowledge and experience in advocacy and/or policy influencing basics
  • Experience in designing training programmes that include role-play, mock trials, or other creative learning approaches.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to the socio-political context and civic space in west Nile region of Uganda
  • Excellent working knowledge and skill in managing, moderating and leading virtual and hybrid format engagements
  • Experience in creating strategic documents and setting up evaluations
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills
  • Experience in workshop and training facilitationExcellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English
