Feminature Wins aBi Green Challenge Fund

Feminature has emerged successful in its bid to the Green Challenge Fund (GCF), of Agri-business Development (aBi Development) announced in 2022.   The goal of the fund is to support partners transition to green programming and enhance harness green growth opportunities to address climate and environmental challenges while contributing to economic growth, job creation and improved incomes. the strategic objectives of the fund are focused on supporting SMEs and farmers to increase their resilience to climate change and climate variability, supporting climate mitigation actions to reduce or limit Green House Gas emissions or to enhance GHG sequestration and supporting a stronger local environment, including soils, ecosystems and bio-diversity.   Under this fund, Feminature will over the next 12 months implement the project Supporting Small Holder Farmers to Increase Their Resilience to Climate Change and climate Variability in Madi-Okollo District dubbed RECCAV.
Under this project, we will work with at least 1,000 small-holder farmers, to increase their access to water for production using portable solar powered irrigation systems, promoting the uptake of climate resilient and high yielding horticultural crops, promote agro-foresty through the establishment of tree nurseries and distribution of several varieties of fruit trees, and increasing access to finance for green investments through promotion of savings and loans associations.
RECCAV aligns with the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) Rio markers for Climate by promoting the use of energy-efficient water systems/pumping systems powered by renewable energies (Adaptation Score 2), and cultivate and distribute climate-resilient seeds for improved production and productivity.   This program will target 80% of vulnerable people (women and children) to effects of climate change through promotion of climate resilient agriculture and food security, and social inclusion. Farmers shall improve their productivity and production due to this intervention since they will be able to access quality inputs, their capacity built to produce horticultural products. This will increase food security. Consequently, their income security will increase thus increased household security due to their ability to access food. Groups supported with irrigation systems will adopt and therefore be resilient to climate change.
